No Lie Ins!
This was the hardest for me because I LOVED lie ins. In fact, I would often stay in bed until after midday if I didn’t need to get up early. BIG MISTAKE! If you do this then you’re never going to be tired to go to bed at a normal time, and you’re going to take a long time to fall asleep.
Learning how to fall asleep is pretty easy and if you only take one thing away from this article, this is it. Only go to bed when you are tired, but wake up at the same time every day. This way you won’t be lying in bed for hours on end not feeling tired, and you should also get into a good routine.
No Napping!
Ok, it kinda sounds like I’m nagging in this article, but this is also true. A lot of people, women especially, like to nap during the day if they are feeling a little tired. Again, this is a mistake. If you’re sleeping during the day, then how are you going to be tired enough to sleep at night?!
Exercise Is a Good Thing
Since I started hitting the gym regularly, I noticed a REAL change in how easier it was to fall asleep. I was unemployed for prolonged period a few years ago, and I would often go for days without doing anything (what a bum!) This made it really hard for me to get a good nights sleep. Exercising reduces your stress and anxiety levels, helping you feel more relaxed.
Bed is for Sleep and Sex
This is a bit of a cringe point, but it is true. If you’re lounging on your bed all day then you’re going to tell your brain that this is a place where you are working etc. When my bed broke, I had to sleep in a separate room and I only used that room to sleep in. Surprise surprise, I noticed I was falling asleep much quicker!
